Evidence came from:
John McGrath, carter. Stated Joseph was his brother, aged 22yrs.
William McGrath - cousin, was also stabbed in the shoulder.
Thomas Gallagher - a porter of 4 Campbell St, Labourer.
While having a drink of ale, they were in a narrow passage way, and as two foreigners passed by, William McGrath stepped back and accidentially stood on the toes of Vrumes. They swore at the men.
When the men went outside at closing time, both Narisso Vrumes and Lorenzo Carpus were waiting for them. Vrumes lunged at Joseph and stabbed him in the left side, exposing his bowel and stomach.
Joseph and William were both taken to the Southern Hospital, but Joseph died around midnight on the Saturday.
