| 10867 | It appears after reading the probate of William, that he may have been ill in the last years of his life, as it mentions that he died in the Lunatic Asylum in Braddan. This was the Ballamona Hospital which catered for all types of illness. The death and burial register list William's age as 70, but from records he really was aged 72. No death notice located at this stage via the iMuesum online newspapers. | Corlett, William (I700)

| 10869 | It appears that both Joseph and Edward were baptised twice. Usually this indicates that a child is sickly and likely to die, and Edward did die in 1860..First Baptism is noted as Prviate, so perhaps this one was not. | Cain, Joseph (I633)

| 10871 | It appears that Maud may have been born in 1892 rather than 1893. Her parents according to the Census records are John Austin and Esther. I could only locate a record of a Esther Titley marrying a John Sutton in 1877, Dec Qtr, Stone, 6b 51 I also found them recorded as Sutton on the 1881 Census with daughters Edna and Ada But on the 1891, 1901 & 1911 Census they are under the name of Austin. The first two children are born under Sutton and the rest under Austin. They have remained living in the same area of Slindon, Eccleshall, Staffordshire. Perhaps John was bought up by parents of the surname of Sutton ? | Austin, Maud (I2763)
| 10872 | It appears that Robert has joined the Military before the 1851 Census takes place as I cannot locate him on it. First Miltary record relates to entitlement of Medals for the Crimean War 1854 - 1855. Royal Sappers & Miners No 1368 2nd Corp Robert Wintrup Crimea Medal, also Alma 20 Sept and Inkerman 5th Nov. He was based in Kent at Brompton where the Royal Sappers & Miners had their headquaters when he married Ellen Patterson in 1856. Next record is of Robert listed on the 1861 Worldwide Army Index. These are lists of serving solidiers for the April- June quarter paylists and further details would be held at National Archives England. Robert Wintrup Service No 1368 Sergeant 6th Co Royal Engineers New Zealand NA Ref WO11/ 190 Robert appears on the list of Royal Engineers entitled for the NZ War Medal. Page 71 Non Effective List Nominal Roll of Officers Non Commissioned Officers and the above Corps whoese services during the Wars in New Zealand entitled them to Medal for the same under General Order 17 of 1869 and who have since deserted or been discharged. Sergeant, Wintrup Robert, No 1368, Sergeant. Served in the Waikato Campaign 1863-4. Wanganui Campaign 1865 -6. Present at the actions at Nukemara, Waitotara & Kakaramea. (between Hawera and Wanganui) Discharged 23rd July 1867 | Wintrup, Robert (I75)
| 10873 | It appears that the Divorce may not have actually gone ahead, as the petition from John was withdrawn as stated in Gisborne Times, 8 Sept 1921. They had been separated for 3 years, and John was the petitioner. John changed his name around this time to John Stephen Miller. He also met Lillian Rosina Patty and they had 2 children together. Joyce Miller - 1923 - 2010 Selwyn John Miller - 1933 - 2013 (Lillian was born 25 Feb 1903, Gisborne, and died 26 Sept 1994, Mangere East, Auckland) | Family: John Stephen Stanbridge / Elsie May Pearce (F1421)

| 10877 | It seems from the records that the family moved to Ireland for a time. Agnes was born in Scotland but Isabella, Janet and Margaret all in Ireland. I have searched on the Irish site and cannot locate or id their births at this stage. They were definately back in Glasgow for the 1901 Census. As I cannot locate information about James after Isabella died, and it seems the Brown family took in the younger members as part of their own family, that perhaps James either returned to Ireland, remarried or he definately moved from Glasgow. | Family: James McFarlane / Isabella Gardiner (F288)
| 10878 | It seems that Alexander lived in the time frame when lots of changes were occuring in the Northern Glasgow area where they lived. I have gathered details regarding his occupations during this time from the birth of his children as well as the Census. Alexander was baptised in Eastmuir just outside of Shettleston. We next find him living where he also married in the parish of Govan. Mary, Elizabeth and Helen are suppose to be born in Govan and then Jane in the parish of Barony. By the 1851 Census, Alexander is listed as a Carter the same occupation as his father and back in Old Monkland parish. Agnes is said to be born at Coatbrigde Old Monkland, and we know from the birth registrations that both Janet (1857) & Isabella (1859) were born at Dykehead and that Alexander was recorded as being a Boatman on the Canal. This Canal would have been the Monkland Canal which was a 12 ¼ mile canal, designed to bring coal from the mining areas of Monklands to Glasgow. This Canal and the mining industry was an important part of Alexander's life, as it helped to secure income, from being a Carter (taking coal via horse drawn cart to wherever needed), being the Boatman on the Canal (helping to move the coal along the Canal, eg either by loading, transporting or being on the boat itself), to actually digging the coal and then being the Pit Headman by the time of his death. On the 1861 Census, Alexander is recordered as being a Pit Bottomer at Dykehead, - this meant he worked at the bottom of the coal pit getting the coal out. Dykehead is also spelt on the maps as Dikehead. By the 1871 Census, Alexander is recorded as being a Watchman, living at the Gatehouse, Blantyre. This is south to where he was living previously but also still in the coal mining area. His children, Elizabeth, Agnes, and Janet are all recorded as being Mill Workers. On his death certificate it appears he has moved to Glasgow perhaps to get medical treatment. It states that he had a fall and fell on to the back of his head. This would have required medical attention and investigation. It seems that perhaps the fall was caused by an under lying Heart Disease condition. Perhaps he had had a heart turn which caused the fall ? His daughter who lived in London Road, Glasgow stated he was by this stage aged 61 and a Colliery Pitheadman and his usual place of residence was at Thornwood, Bothwell. | Gardner, Alexander (I425)
