11711 Margaret corresponded regularly with her nephews, Andrew and Robert, in New Zealand.
In one letter to Andrew, written in 1924 from her house in Newcastle, she recalls that Twislehope was too hilly for anything but sheep and that they raised corn only for the horses and a few turnips, potatoes and vegetables for themselves.
She also mentions that Sir Walter Scott wrote some of his novels at her Grandfather's house at Whithaugh and that his first visit to Liddesdale in his 'carriage' (gig) was made to see his friend Thomas Elliot at Twislehope.

Margaret died as the result of a Coronary Thrombosis caused by Arteriosclosis (20yrs) and anesthsia due to surgery. Complication of Carcinoma. Likely Rectal Cancer as there was blockage of the intestines which was cause for the operation. Had great fears of the operation before surgery.
at 11.05 AM, while on surgical table due to effects of anesthesia - 13 Nov 1962.
Both buried in the Laurel Memorial Park Cemetery, Pomona, New Jersey. Section A, Lot NS 155, Unit C Section A, Grave F4.
