14674 | Seems the they went back and forth between USA and Scotland, especially Janet to have the first two children born in Scotland. First child Mary born in 1910/11, possibly Shettleston Lanark. second daughter Elizabeth MaCracken Fleming born in 1913 - Bothwell Lanark. Others are James T Fleming born 6 Aug 1916 Pennsyvania; William C (Billy) Fleming born c 1919 Pennsyvania. Also appearing on Immigration as well as Census of USA is Alexander Fleming - adopted son, as well as Annie Fleming. I suspect these are the children of Thomas's parents or his brothers which also came to USA with them. It appears that also Thomas's parents may have also immigrated to the USA. Lots of research is required regarding this family. | Family: Thomas Fleming / Janet Gardiner Brown Laird (F5989)

14678 | Sergeant in HM 42 Regiment Foot as per his son Robert's death certificate, Burial record also says he was a Sergeant. The 42nd was also known as the "Black Watch" Prior to 1800 few records exist for the 42nd Regiment - what there is are now available in FindmyPast of which I have searched all records relating to an Angus McDonald and various spellings. It is hard to know which battles Angus was involved with, but could have been the Napoleonic Wars, but could also have been with the regiment when the involved in the American War of Independence. The Regiment took part in the successful action at Brooklyn, New York against George Washington's forces in 1776 and undertook much skirmishing against the rebels during the raminder of that war. I have found 3 Angus McDonald's listed on discharge as being Sergeant's, None of them in the 42nd Regiment nor do dates of age seem to fit. More research needs to be completed to identify Agnus McDonald correctly in the Military records. | McDonald, Angus (I4356)

14698 | SHEET Terrible Death of a Publican. An inquest was held at the Blue Anchor, Sheet, on Friday, by Mr Edgar Goble, county coroner, on the body of Henry Kimber, the late landloard, who was a man of intemperate habits, and during the last four years had been suffering from delirium tremenus. Mrs Kimber said that on the night of Monday, the 18th inst, she put deceased to bed about ten o'clock, and left her son in the room to mind him. He remained there a short time, and then went to bed in an adjoining room. Mrs Kimber went downstairs to wait up for her daughters, who had gone to a Foresters' anniversary at Lim. They did not arrive home until a quarter to one or thereabouts. On driving up to the door they saw their father lying in the road, four or five yards away from the house, with his face towards the road, lying on his stomach, without any other clothing than his shirt. The bedroom window was open, and underneath the window was a mass of broken flower pots, flowers, and earth, and in fact it seemed quite clear that the deceased had leaped from the window and brought down the flower pots with him; but, strange to relate, there were no marks about the deceased that would betoken such a fall, he only being bruised on the left arm. Mrs Kimber stated that she did not send for a doctor until about eight hours after the accident had occurred. - Dr. Albert Warren Leachman proved being sent for about 9.30 am on the 19th inst. He said he found deceased suffering from acute mania, fast tending to exhaustion. He was shouting and singing. Hearing of the accident, witness examined the head and body, but could find no sign of injury. From the absence of paralysis, unconsciouness, or other signs of injury to the nerve structures, he came to the conclusion that he was not suffering from the effects of the accident. In witness's opinion he died from exhaustion, caused by acute mania resulting from intemperance. Witness thought that deceased should have been watched. In answer to a question by the Foreman, witness said he did not think that the fall from the window had accelerated deceased's death in the alightment. It was mentioned to the Coroner that a lodger in the house on the night in question had heard a noise as of something heavy falling. The jury then returned a verdict in accordance with the medical testimony, vix, that the deceased died from exhaustion caused by acute mania resulting from intemperance. Unknown Newspaper but said to be 20 June 1877 - from a family member SHEET STRANGE ACCIDENT - A notice will be seen in our obituary column, of the death of Mr Henry Kimber, for some years past the Landlord of the "Blue Anchor" Ramshall. The deceased's death appears to have been accelerated by a very painful accident; On Monday last, deceased's daughter attended the Foresters' Anniversary at Liss, and drive back accompanied by some friends, and reached their house, between one and two o'clock on the following morning. When they arrived opposite the deceased's house, they heard some one, who appeared to be in the road, call out for them not to drive over him. The driver fortunately stopped his horse just in time, and dismounting, found the deceased lying in the road in his nightshirt, with his head towards the road, and within a foot or two of the wheel. He was immediately taken into his house, when it was found that some time previously he had retired to rest in a room opposite to where he was found, and of which the window was found wide open. Some short time before he was picked up, Mr Kimber had heard a crash, but did not take any notice of it. The flower pots on the cill of his bedroom, were thrown down and broken, and it is surmised that he must have accidentally fallen from the window. Dr Leachman, who had previously been attending him, was called in but the unfortunate man died on the following day. | Kimber, Henry (I3685)
