15551 WEDDING
CORLETT - HILL

St Matthew's Church was beautifully decorated with spring bulbs and blossom for the marriage recently of Bessie Rosina, youngest daughter of Mr G Hill (British Merchant Navy) and the late Mrs M Hill, to Thomas Edward, eldest son of Mr and Mrs L Corlett, Masterton. The Rev Wm Tye, Tinui, officiated and Mr Henderson presided at the organ.
The bride, who was escorted by Mr B Waters, a friend, looked charming in a dainty gown of white lace. Her tulle veil, kindly lent by a friend, fell softly from a halo of orange blossom and she carried a shower bouquet of heath, hyacinths, spring bulbs and maiden-hair fern.
The bride was attended by Miss E Corlett, who wore a green taffeta frock trimmed with mauve velvet flowers. Her bouquet consisted of pink camellias and maiden-hair fern, with a matching spray in her hair. The little flower girl, B Corlett, a cousin of the bridegroom, wore a replica of the bridesmaid's frock and carried a basket of pink camellias and maiden-hair fern.
Cpl M Corlett attended the bridegroom.
A reception was held later at Styles Tearooms, the guests being received by Mrs C Donovan (sister of the bride), assisted by Mrs L Coreltt. Mrs Donovan was attired in a smart grey costume, worn with a spray of freesias and maiden-hair fern. Mrs Corlett's ensemble was of ivory with a shoulder spray of maiden-hair fern. The bride's godmother, Mrs W Jakeman, looked smart in a teal blue frock with a shoulder spray of roses, hyacinths and maiden-hair fern.
Later, when Mr and Mrs Corlett left for the the south, the bride travelled in a tailored coat with black accessories.

15552 Wedding
MOORE - PAULING
A quiet and very pretty wedding was celebrated on Thursday by the Rev G B Inglis, at the residence of the bride's mother (Mrs W Pauling), the contracting parties being Mr Charles Moore, the well-known and popular constable of Ashburton, and Miss Agnes Pauling, second daughter of the late Mr W Pauling. The bride who was given away by her brother, Mr J H Pauling, looked very pretty in a cream silk dress with heliotrope velvet trimmings. She wore the orthodox bridal veil and orange blossoms. Miss R Conland as bridesmaid wore navy blue serge, cream trimmed. The bride and bridesmaid wore gold brooches, the gift of the bridegroom. The bridal party left by the express for the north on their honeymoon, followed by the good wishes of the many friends present to witness their departure.

15553 Wedding at Masterton

A wedding of more than usual interest was celebrated at St Matthew's Church, Masterton, by the Rev A V Grace, at noon to-day, the principals being Mr Walter Charles Perry - eldest son of Mr Walter Perry, of Masterton, and one of the most prominent and popular athletes in the district - and Miss Annie Jane Yates, fourth daughter of the late Mr Henry Yates, of Masterton. The church was packed long before the hour fixed for the ceremoney, and numbers were obliged to content themselves with a glimpse of the wedding party as it entered and left the church. The service was fully choral. Mr W Ford presided at the organ and played the "Wedding March".
The bride - who was given away by her brother, Mr Edward yates - looked remarkably well. She was attired in a very handsome cream embossed silk dress, trimmed with broche and silk lace, with the usual wreath, veil and orange blossoms. She also carried a very beautiful bridal shower bouquet.
Four bridesmaids were in attendance. The Misses Blanche Perry and Amy Yates, dressed in grey silk trimmed with pink, with cream hats trimmed with pale pink roses and silk lace, each wearing a fine gold brooch set with amethyst, the gift of the bridegroom and the Misses Ida Perry and Mabel Hare, dressed in pale pink cashmere, with white felt hats and cream lace, each wearing gold brooches with initials set in pearls, also the gift of the bridegroom.
Among the wedding guests were the bride's mother (Mrs A B Yates) in a handsome black silk, with black bonnet and pink roses; and Mrs Walter Perry in dark green with bonnet of amber and black, and numerous others, related to the bride and bridegroom.
The young couple were greeted with showers of rice and flowers on leaving the Church, and amidst the heartfelt good wishes of very many friends, drove off to the residence of the bride's mother, were a large party of guests sat down to the wedding breakfast.
Mr and Mrs Charles Perry leave for Wellington by this afternoon's train, and we unite with their many friends in wishing them future happiness and prosperity.

15570 When Amy died, she left behind a very young family. Her son William left as executor aged 23, Leonard Edward at 21, Constance at 19 but already married, Frederick 17, Leonard Walter aged 14, Thomas aged 13, and Edward only 9 years old.

She states in her will that the house in 5 First Street was hers and registered in her name and also still had a mortgage on it. I think the funds for the house would have come down via the estate of her mother Elizabeth, which was in the hands of Amy's Grandmother Agnes Bell Yates.

Who did Edward, Thomas and Leonard Walter go to live with after Amy died ?

Family stories have it that after Amy died, due to William her husband having a love of horses, and often not coming home with enough money, dug up the garden in First Street hoping to find any money that the said Amy was suppose to bury on the odd occasion. They found nothing.
I suspect she did hide funds, but had to use them on the regular bases in order to feed the family and pay the mortgage.

It appears from the records that Amy and William may have been seperated for a time, as we have records of William up in Auckland around 1916, and the Will makes her son William Henry who is only 23 at the time her sole executor.

15573 When research was undertaken many years ago on the Ancestors of William Corlett born c 1825 and Married to Eleanor Cowley, his parents were listed as William Corlett and Jane Cowlle.

With the use of new records available for research now, I have discovered that this set of parents and therefore previous generations back, are incorrect.
I have used the Census of 1841, 1851, 1861, 1871, 1881 and 1891 to assist with establishing the now correct parents of William Corlett. Also further records have become available via the familysearch site to assist with this change as well.

Please contact me regarding any of this research if you have queries or want further information provided.

15575 Where is Harry in the 1891 Census and what became of him?

Two children born to Elizabeth after Ellen Hill was born in 1885.
The father of these children is William John Passingham, whom she married in 1894 stating that she was a widow.
Did Elizabeth apply the 7 year missing and presumed dead when she married in 1894 or did Harry not die until around that time period.
Cannot locate at this stage of Dec 2015 what has happened to Harry after 1885.
