4078 | Miss L White Only daughter of the late Captain and Mrs David H White, the funeral took place at Newhaven Cemetery on Friday of Miss Lilah White, of The Moorings, Fort Road, Newhaven, who died at Littlehampton the previous Wednesday. Miss White, who was 62 years of age, was for many years on the clerical staff of the old Newhaven Industrial and Cooperative Society. Her father was a captain on the cross-channel steamers and for several years prior to his retirement was berthing master at Newhaven Harbour. On the death of her mother in May, Miss White stayed with her brother and sister in law, Mr and Mrs D H White, at the Anchorage, Littlehampton. The interment was preceded by a service at Christ Church, Newhaven, conducted by the Rev J S Martin (curate). The mourners were: Mr and Mrs D H White, of Littlehampton (brother and sister in law); Mr Fred White, of Tescombe Cliffs (uncle), and Mrs W J Peters, of Hove (cousin). Floral tributes were sent by the following; Dave and Gert (Littlehampton); aunt, uncle and Edith (Telscombe Cliffs); Howard and Nan (Birmingham); Oliver, Will and the boys (Hove); Aunt Li; Julia; Ada, Charlie and John (Dartford); Nurse Bulbeck (Littlehampton); Mr and Mrs C G Mainwood; Mr and Mrs Taylor; Janet and Muriel; Mr and Mrs E Hollands; all at 1 Murray Avenue. | White, Charlotte Eliza (I4474)

4079 | Miss M Scott An outstanding record of service to the nursing profession and to the cause of the sick and afflicted was terminated yesterday morning by the death of Miss Margaret Scott, after a prolonged illness. In 1915 Miss Scott became the owner of Prospect House and continued as owner and Matron until 1947 when ill health compelled her to sell. Much of the reputation for efficiency which the hospital enjoyed was due to her effort and there was at all times a warm, personal interest in the welfare of her patients. Medical students of an earlier day were largely dependent upon private hospitals for experience in maternity and gynaecological cases and many of those who acquired their knowledge through the co-operaton of Miss Scott later attained eminence as doctors and surgeons in the Dominion. Known as "Scotty" to her many friends throughout Otago and Southland she took a personal and practical interest in various organisations in the city and will be long remembered for her many acts of kindness and generosity. Miss Scott was a daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Alex Scott of Ellensdale, North Taieri and is survived by one brother, Mr Alex Scott, of Berwick and two sisters Miss Molly Scott and Mrs Charles Penman, of Dunedin. | Scott, Margaret (I1543)
