| 5900 | SS Tainui Departed London 21 Aug 1914, and arrived in Wellington 5th Oct 1914. She carried 17 1st Class 56 2nd Class and 280 in 3rd Class which were assisted immigrants. She came via Cape Town and Hobart before docking at Wellington. The Tainui had quite a trip out, as War had just started, she had a narrow escape from being sunk, needed to have all her lights out on deck and port holes were masked up. Once past Cape Town all was well and she had good weather until reaching Hobart and Wellington. In the 3rd Class passenger lists was: Ethel McKay, a Domestic aged 21 from Scotland.
