  Notes	On 18th December 1584 an agreement called the Assurance of Liddesdale was signed before Sir John Foster at Hermitage Castle, Robert Ellot of Redheugh, Martin Ellot and William Ellot of Falnash, on behalf of ' our whole house of Redheugh wherever they may dwell". being the first to sign. On 20th Nov 1590 William was 'put to the horn', and finally the matter reached the Earl of Bothwell. In relation to William, his tenants and bills remaining unsettled. (Forfeiture of movable goods - announced by the blowing of a horn at the market cross. Not always actually carried out)
