Miss M Scott
An outstanding record of service to the nursing profession and to the cause of the sick and afflicted was terminated yesterday morning by the death of Miss Margaret Scott, after a prolonged illness.
In 1915 Miss Scott became the owner of Prospect House and continued as owner and Matron until 1947 when ill health compelled her to sell.
Much of the reputation for efficiency which the hospital enjoyed was due to her effort and there was at all times a warm, personal interest in the welfare of her patients.
Medical students of an earlier day were largely dependent upon private hospitals for experience in maternity and gynaecological cases and many of those who acquired their knowledge through the co-operaton of Miss Scott later attained eminence as doctors and surgeons in the Dominion.
Known as "Scotty" to her many friends throughout Otago and Southland she took a personal and practical interest in various organisations in the city and will be long remembered for her many acts of kindness and generosity.
Miss Scott was a daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Alex Scott of Ellensdale, North Taieri and is survived by one brother, Mr Alex Scott, of Berwick and two sisters Miss Molly Scott and Mrs Charles Penman, of Dunedin.

Affidavits signed by Thomas Frederick Basire, of Dunedin Manager of the Perpetual Trustees Estate and Agency Company of NZ Ltd
-Knew Margaret Gillanders Scott (also known as Margaret Scott)
Probate under the value of £8500.
I knew the above named Margaret Gillanders Scott late of Dunedin spinster now deceased for many years during her lifetime. She for a great many years owned and conducted a private hospital known a "Prospect House" in St David Street Dunedin. During that period I was a member of the staff of the Perpetual Trustees Estate and Agency Company of NZ Ltd and she frequently consulted that company with regard to her affairs. I usually dealt with her. She regularly sent the accounts owing by the hospital to the Company and they were totalled up and a cheque was written out usually by me which she subsequently signed and cashed. I accordingly have seen hundreds of her cheques and she invariably signed such cheques "Margaret Scott". have recently checked over the years 1921 to 1933 in the Company's book and found a record of charges made to her for the above work. She subsequently sold the hospital and retired.
3. The above named Margaret Gillanders Scott in all the dealings which I had with her invariably used on the name "Margaret Scott" and she invariably signed her name "Margaret Scott" I have never known her use any other signature and I did not know that she had the name "Gillanders" till after her death.
5. The reason that probate is desired in the two names "Margaret Gillanders Scott" and "Margaret Scott" is that the deceased has property in both names.
17th day of August 1954
Thomas Frederick Basire
Charles Penman of Dunedin Public Accountant and Sharebroker also made oath.
I knew the above named Margaret Gillanders Scott (who was my wife's sister and who died at Dunedin on or about the 2nd day of July 1954) during her lifetime and I was well acquainted with her business affairs on which she from time to time consulted me.
2. That the said Margaret Gillanders Scott rarely used the name "Gillanders" and was usually and indeed almost always known as and used the name "Margaret Scott"
22nd day of July 1954.
