DEATHS
On January 5th 1942 at 9 Lezayre Road, Ramsey, William Hunter Mills Blair, beloved husband of Mary Ann Blair, aged 74 years.
Interred at Lezayre Churchyard on January 7th.
DEATH OF MR W M BLAIR
The death on Monday morning of Mr William H M Blair, removes one of Ramsey's best-known personalities of bygone days. Mr Blair, who was 74 years of age, was for 59 years in the employ of Messrs J Clague and Sons at their foundry in Ramsey and for the greater part of that period he was their foreman engineer and fitter. His advice in regard to all kinds of machinery, boiler installations, etc, was often sought and he was invariably the man to be called in when a breakdown occurred and was known throughout the north of the Island as an expert engineer. For some years, with his wife, he ran cinema shows at the Old Cross Hall, and later, when the Ramsey Amusements Company was formed, he became one of their directors. During the past year or two his health had not been good and his condition became more serious a short time ago. He is survived by his wife, with whom much sympathy will be felt.
PIONEER OF LOCAL CINEMAS
DEATH OF MR W H M BLAIR
The death took place on Monday morning of a well known townsman in the person of Mr W H M Blair, Altdale Terrace, Lezayre Road, Ramsey, in his 75th year. He had been ill for some weeks and his condition had progressively grown worse towards the end.
Mr Blair was for the long period of 60 years employed with the firm of Messrs John Clague and Son, Ramsey, practically fifty years of that time in the capacity of foreman mechanic. He was a born mechanic, and highly skilled in his trade. Since their inception he took the keenest interest in the business of moving pictures, and was identified with one of the first movie shows in Ramsey, and later showing pictures himself in the far-away silent days at the Old Cross Hall. He was one of the body of local men who in later years formed the Ramsey Amusements syndicate, which took over the Simming Pool, the Cimema House and the old Palace Cinema, converting it into a modern cinema. He took a great interest in this concern, and his practical knowledge was of great value to his co-directors. A quiet and unassuming man he possessed many fine qualities and he enjoyed the good opinion and respect of his fellows. Much sympathy will be felt for his wife in her great loss. There are no children.
FUNERAL
The funeral took place on Wednesday, when a number of townspeople attended to pay their last tribute of respect. The mourners included relatives, his fellow directors of Ramsey Amusements Ltd, Messrs W E Lace, J F Hughes and H E Kneale, and Messrs J Clague and Sons Ltd, were represented by Mr A S Claque and several members of the staff who had been fellow workers of Mr Blair. Canon M W Harrison conducted the last rites at Lezayre.
